Pearson House risks demolition Print E-mail

The Charles Pearson House, located at 902 Villa St. in Mountain View, faces a likely demolition. Or does it?

Located adjacent to the recently rescued Immigrant House, the 1880s-era Pearson House – measuring 1,100 square feet – would require an estimated $922,000 to restore, according to the city of Mountain View, making preservation, presumably, cost prohibitive.

However, developer Roger Burnell, whose office building awaits construction where the house currently stands, is still open to saving it. Burnell had previously attempted to relocate the house to Cuesta Park Annex to accompany a Mountain View History Museum, a proposal the Mountain View City Council rejected in 2011.

“We are involved in a new push to make an art museum out of the Pearson House,” he said last week, acknowledging that “this could complexify matters, and we hope, would not add delays.”

Burnell has scheduled construction on his project to begin as early as March 1.
