Reiki masters Larisa Vladimirova, from left, and Linda Alderman have scheduled a Feb. 16 grand opening for their Los Altos practice at 745 Distel Drive, Suite 121. Local enthusiasts of the Japanese healing practice of Reiki will be glad to know that the new Los Altos Reiki Center has opened. Reiki masters Linda Alderman and Larisa Vladimirova, who have practiced in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties for several years, have scheduled a grand-opening celebration 1-3 p.m. Feb. 16 at their new location, 745 Distel Drive, Suite 121.
The event will include a brief presentation explaining Reiki and its health and wellness benefits. In addition to providing Reiki healing sessions, the duo conducts training classes at the Los Altos Reiki Center and on the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto. Developed by a Japanese Buddhist in the 1920s, Reiki uses the palms of hands to transfer “universal energy” to the patient. According to Alderman and Vladimirova, Reiki induces relaxation, which helps the body’s own natural healing systems create physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance. Reiki healing sessions can alleviate stress, pain and discomfort, they said. The sessions may be conducted seated or lying fully clothed on a table. “Reiki is one of the fastest-growing energy healing methods today and is increasingly being incorporated into complementary medicine programs in modern medical treatment centers today,” the duo stated in a press release. As with other holistic practices, members of the medical and scientific communities remain skeptical about Reiki’s effectiveness in treating illnesses, citing insufficient evidence. But Alderman and Vladimirova said the Reiki treatment is not focused on treating a diagnosis – it aims to support the client’s self-healing and well-being. “Reiki can complement your health-care program by reducing stress and the side effects of medical therapies or procedures. It can speed up and deepen the healing process,” they said. “Patients and their caregivers can benefit greatly from giving and receiving Reiki. Reiki requires no special belief system or state of mind; it can deepen your awareness and spiritual connection with all.” For more information, call Alderman at 862-2425 or Vladimirova at 532-3454.
