What a week for the Los Altos High girls soccer team. The Eagles opened it by clipping Saratoga 1-0, capped it with a 2-0 win over Monta Vista and tied rival Mountain View 2-all in between.

Los Altos improved to 2-0-1 in the SCVAL De Anza Division and 4-1-2 overall.

Julia Goupil’s first-half penalty kick beat Saratoga Jan. 7. Sophia Hyver scored on a header Friday against Monta Vista (assist Allie Crum) and her deflected shot earlier in the game led to a goal by Tess Wendelken. Crum and Stephanie Kouvelas tallied first-half goals versus Mountain View Jan. 9. The Spartans scored in the second half on shots by Dana Camin and Ysabel Balyuot (assists Erica Higa).

“We ended the game outshooting LA 15-6, but LA played a strong game and made it difficult for us,” Mountain View coach Ivan Bandov said.

Pinewood capped a three-win week by routing Eastside Prep 6-0 Saturday. Kelly Branson scored twice for Pinewood (5-0 West Bay Athletic League, 6-3-1 overall).

St. Francis shut out Sacred Heart Cathedral 7-0 Saturday in West Catholic Athletic League play. Annie Kingman and Katherine Bell paced the Lancers with three and two goals, respectively.

Boys soccer

Los Altos eked out a 2-1 De Anza Division win over Mountain View Jan. 9. Josh Stephens scored the Eagles’ first goal and assisted on the second, a shot by Kunal Patel with 10 minutes left. Keenan Zucker scored for the Spartans.

“It was a very good game, back and forth,” Mountain View coach Jim McGuirk said. “Los Altos is big and strong and played a great game.”

Pinewood snapped a five-game losing streak by drubbing Crystal Springs 78-37 Friday behind 14 points from Greg Naumann. Owen Lewis and Kyle Murphy scored 13 each for the Panthers (1-3 WBAL, 6-6 overall).

Mountain View rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Milpitas 47-46 Jan. 8. Brian Kaestner totaled 22 points and Nick Wang 17 for the Spartans (2-1 De Anza Division, 7-7 overall).
