MVHS sponsors Save our Seas Festival The Mountain View High School Environmental Club has scheduled the Save Our Seas Film Festival 6:30-9:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at Mountain View High’s Spartan Theater, 3535 Truman Ave. The festival will feature two to three films pertaining to threats the oceans and ocean wildlife face today. Two guest speakers will discuss their personal and professional relationships with the seas.
Snacks will be served during a brief intermission. The event is free, family friendly and open to the public. The club accepts donations. MVLA foundation hosts parent education event The Mountain View-Los Altos School Speaker Series has scheduled Deborah Gilboa, M.D., to discuss “Raising Kids Who Can Launch” 7-9 p.m. Jan. 24 in Los Altos High School’s Eagle Theater, 201 Almond Ave. Gilboa, a board-certified family physician and mother of four, encourages parents to use the parenting instincts they have developed but are colored by stress, doubt and guilt. Gilboa’s presentation will include information on how to parent teens and young adults through their adolescence, encourage children’s resilience in the face of adversity, balance active parenting with enhancing children’s independence and impart lessons. Admission is free. The Mountain View-Los Altos High School Foundation and the Los Altos-Mountain View PTA Council co-sponsor the event. For more information, visit www.ptac.mvwsd.org/parented.html. Living Classroom seeks volunteers The Los Altos School District’s Living Classroom Program seeks volunteers who enjoy working with students and appreciate nature. The program reaches all grade levels within the district and includes hands-on education in science, math and social studies. A docent, an assistant docent and one or two volunteer parents direct lessons inside or outside the classroom. Training and materials are provided.
