KMVT15, which provides public access television to Mountain View, Los Altos and Cupertino, embarked on a capital campaign last month to upgrade its studios and convert equipment from analog to digital.
The nonprofit organization, whose mission is to provide media education and hands-on training and promote civic engagement, serves as a resource to narrow the digital divide through the use of technology and offers the community tools to create media and use technology in a socially responsible manner.
KMVT15’s Go Digital! Capital Campaign has a fundraising target of $500,000, earmarked to upgrade its studios and remote equipment from analog to digital over the next two years. The organization has raised $125,000, with the first grant funds provided by the city of Los Altos and a second round by the city of Cupertino.
“I’m delighted that Los Altos was the first organization to support the KMVT15 Go Digital! Capital Campaign,” said Los Altos City Councilwoman Val Carpenter, adding that the Los Altos City Council voted unanimously to provide $65,000 in funding to “bring their facility and equipment into the digital age.”
According to KMVT15 Executive Director Shelley Wolfe, the campaign is off to a strong start.
“KMVT15 is looking to the larger community for their generous support to reach our goal of being a fully digital facility, as well as one of the most accessible public media forums of our time, tailored to our community’s needs,” she said.
Wolfe said funding generated from the campaign’s second phase will go toward updating cameras.
“The cameras we have still work, but they’re 25 years old,” she said.
Wolfe said donors have the option of choosing a specific piece of equipment or program to target their donation toward.
The second phase of the campaign comes to a close at the end of the year.
