July, 1960 – October, 2012

Gregory spent his youth in Mountain View, CA with his Mother and Father, James and Shirley, and his younger bother, Jeff. He graduated from Los Altos High School in 1978. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineer in 1983 from Cal Poly-San Louis Obispo. He achieved the Professional Engineer (PE) certification with the State of California in 1986 and a MBA degree in 1994.

After graduation he worked and partnered at several businesses in the bay area until he moved to Sparks, Nevada in 2004 to manufacture Biodiesel fuel equipment.

As a youth he very much enjoyed the fun and qualities of leadership of the Boy Scouts of America with his father and younger brother in Troop 30 in Los Altos, CA. He became an Eagle Scout at age 14 and was chosen as a scouting delegate from the bay area to represent the ideals of Scouting in Washington, D.C. during the bicentennial in 1976 at the request of President Gerald Ford.

Greg discovered music early and enjoyed playing many instruments such as guitars, saxophone, and piano. Much of his leisure time was spent in his home recording studio and playing for others.

His other love was automobiles and he participated in Autocross racing during and after college. His first car was a Studebaker and progressed into fast sleek sport cars. Greg developed great knowledge about Aerospace, Aerodynamics. He enjoyed skiing, golf, sailing, tennis and was an avid 49ers and James Bond 007 fan.

Greg helped anybody that asked for his knowledge of engineering and business, he was known by everyone to have engineering skills that have left their mark on our world in the fields of Lasers, mobile communication devices and Biodiesel. He was highly recognized for his integrity and leadership. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and associates.

A memorial celebration of Gregory’s life will be held at 1:00 PM at the Los Altos Union Presbyterian Church on January 26, 2013, in Los Altos, CA.

Greg believed in the Boy Scouts ability to train leaders. Donations can be made in his name, Gregory James Springer, to Boy Scouts of America, 1325 Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, TX 75115-2079. Tel. 972-580-2000.

I am so saddened to learn of Greg's passing. I will always remember his enthusiasm, capability and good nature. I can't recollect a time when he wasn't smiling. I remember how impressed my father, Warren Snow (then Scoutmaster of Troop 30) was with Greg (his brother Jeff too!). What an all aroung great guy!
My condolences to Greg's family. Greg will be dearly missed. He made the world a better place.
Jeff Snow (former T-30 fellow Eagle Scout)
