Bullis Charter School donation records made their way into the Los Altos School District legal team’s hands in late December – but don’t expect to see the information in print.

The Sixth Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal Dec. 13 upheld an order compelling Bullis Charter School to disclose the information.

The district sought information regarding the charter school’s financial donations as part of its opposition to the charter school’s motion to recover $1.3 million in attorneys’ fees resulting from a previous lawsuit challenging the 2009-2010 facilities allocation.

Doug Smith, president of the Los Altos School District Board of Trustees, said the information remains under the “strictest” protective order, and that Superintendent Jeff Baier and district trustees won’t see the donation records.

Only the district and charter school attorneys and Superior Court Judge Patricia Lucas will have access to the information. Smith said the amounts would be redacted in the published legal paperwork. Lucas issued the original order to disclose information, which the charter school unsuccessfully sought to reverse.

Lucas did not order that donors be identified by name. The required information includes the average sum Bullis Charter School parents contributed to the school from 2008 to the present, the sums from the largest donors from 2009 to the present, and whether those donors have children who have attended the charter school or have other affiliations.
