Two local teams proved not only good in their sports, but also in the classroom. The Los Altos High girls volleyball team and the St. Francis High field hockey team each contended for a 2012 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Award.
The awards, instituted by the Central Coast Section Board of Managers in 1985, recognize the varsity team from each CCS sport with the highest collective GPA of the teams competing in that sport during the season. The Los Altos volleyball team placed fifth in its sport by posting a 3.7020 GPA, while the St. Francis field hockey team finished fourth with a 3.5231 GPA. Both squads made the CCS playoffs, with Los Altos reaching the quarterfinals and St. Francis the semifinals.
