Students from Almond and Egan Junior High schools performed for Maltby’s customers at Breakfast With Santa Dec. 15.

More than a dozen children shared their musical and singing talents to help Santa Claus bring joy to their younger peers at Breakfast With Santa, sponsored by the Los Altos Village Association, Dec. 15 at Maltby’s Restaurant & Tavern.

Fifth- and sixth-grade Almond School chorus members and a chamber trio of Egan Junior High orchestra students performed a program that included festive poetry readings and traditional carols.

“I had just one week to form this group and put the program together and we had only two rehearsals,” Director Deborah Rockey said. “It says a lot about these kids that they were able to pull this off with such aplomb and really shows their talent and their enthusiasm.”

The program included a poetry reading of “Five Little Candles” and “Little Snowman.” As the sixth-graders recited the poems, the fifth-graders acted them out.

The chamber trio played a rendition of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Carol of the Bells.” The chorus sang traditional favorites including “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman,” accompanied by the string trio. They also performed “The Holly and the Ivy,” accompanied by Egan student Scott Sun on keyboard.

As the chorus finished “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” Santa arrived to the delight of the young attendees.

“This is the fourth year we’ve done Breakfast with Santa,” said owner James Maltby. “It’s a fabulous holiday tradition we’ve got going here.”

Choral performers included Peyton Rockey, Katrina Arsky, Sasha Graeser, Kayla Jackson, Sydney Rogers, Manasi Sastry, Elise Walker, Lily Szalay, Sophia Hwang, Abbey Mesel and Adrienne Mitchel. Casey Rockey, Scott Sun and Nathan Mesel formed the chamber trio.
