Charter school donation info reaches LASD lawyers Print E-mail
Written by Traci Newell

Bullis Charter School donation information is making its way into the Los Altos School District legal team’s hands this week – but don’t expect to see that information in print.

The documents are being released after the Sixth Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal upheld an order compelling Bullis to disclose donation information.

The district sought information regarding Bullis’ financial donations as part of its opposition to the charter school’s motion to recover $1.3 million in attorneys’ fees resulting from a previous lawsuit challenging the 2009-2010 facilities allocation.

Los Altos School District President Doug Smith said that the information is under the “strictest” protective order, and that Superintendent Jeff Baier and the district trustees won’t see the charter’s school donation information.

Only the district and charter school attorneys and Superior Court Judge Patricia Lucas will see the donation information. Smith said the information will be redacted in the published legal paperwork. Lucas issued the original order to disclose information, which Bullis unsuccessfully sought to reverse.

Lucas did not order that donors be identified by name. The donation information includes the average sum Bullis Charter School parents donationed to the school from 2008 to the present, the sums from the largest donors from 2009 to the present, and whether those donors have children who have attended the charter school, or have other affiliations.

Too bad, would have been interesting. So much for transparency from the lawsuit school. And yes Lawsuit supporters, you do have access to PTA and LAEF supporters, just look in the papers or at the auction fundraisers, names are prominently and proudly displayed along with categories for size of donation. Also when the telethons are done volunteers have access to who when and how much. So many secrets usually means so much to hide.

I had heard that some LASD parents were going to find some free information act that is a backdoor way to get the names and amounts for the last couple of years. That would've been a great list to access and publish online. I have a couple of neighbors at BCS and would love to see how much they are kicking in. Hope they figure out a way with whatever regulation or statute they are pursuing.
