The Town Crier named Los Altos Hills resident Mona Armistead its 2012 Los Altan of the Year. Modeled after Time magazine’s Person of the Year, the annual recognition honors local residents whose efforts build good will and enhance the Los Altos community’s reputation as a quality place to live.
Armistead is a lifelong volunteer who learned the value of helping others as a child involved in her church in Roanoke, Va. A psychotherapist by trade, she has a long history of helping local youth through involvement in such organizations as the Community Health Awareness Council, the YMCA of the Midpeninsula and the Rotary Club of Los Altos. Her long association with the Vista Center for the Blind (formerly the Midpeninsula Center for the Blind) prompted her to organize Vintage Affaire, a popular wine auction benefit for the center, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Look for a full profile of Armistead in the Jan. 2 Town Crier. An invitation-only dinner scheduled Jan. 25 will honor Armistead and her contributions to the community.
