Los Altos churches, businesses and service organizations have scheduled events, activities and opportunities to give back during the holiday season.

Caroling in the Hills

7:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday

Meets at Parks and Recreation Building

Los Altos Hills Town Hall

Parks and Recreation Committee member Scott Vanderlip is scheduled to lead the annual caroling event. Children, adults and families will meet for a brief rehearsal, then tour nearby neighborhoods. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Cookies and cider will be served. For more information, call Vanderlip at 793-0475.

Carriage rides

5-9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and Dec. 26 and Dec. 27

$90 for up to four adults and four children

The Los Altos Village Association sponsors the horse-drawn carriage rides through downtown Los Altos.

Ways to give back

Los Altos Town Crier Holiday Fund

The Town Crier Holiday Fund supports the work of 20 local nonprofit organizations. Contributions are tax deductible. There are three ways to give:

• Mail donations payable to Silicon Valley Community Foundation (Attn: Town Crier Holiday Fund) to 2440 W. El Camino Real, Suite 300, Mountain View 94040.

• Call 450-5444 to use a credit card.

• Donate online at www.siliconvalleycf.org/latc-holiday-fund.

Caroling at the VA Hospital

9 a.m. to noon Dec. 25

Palo Alto VA Hospital, 3801 Miranda Ave.

Community members are invited to bring holiday cheer to hospitalized veterans by caroling and distributing gifts.

The hotel is accepting gift donations through Thursday. Bring in a new, unwrapped toy and receive a free breakfast. One free breakfast per person per toy ($12.95 value).

Clothing Drive for Career Closet

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays

Option 1 Staffing

The Career Closet, a recipient of the Town Crier Holiday Fund, seeks donations of gently used clothes, shoes, jewelry, handbags and accessories. The nonprofit organization provides disadvantaged women with career clothing and occupational and presentation skills.

10th annual ‘Cops That Care’ Holiday Gift Program

Through Saturday

Mountain View Police Department

The Mountain View Police Department’s “Cops That Care” program provides presents for children whose families may not have the means to purchase gifts. Drop off donations of new, unwrapped toys and clothing as well as gift cards or cash. Make checks payable to the Mountain View Police Activities League with “Cops That Care” written on the memo line.
