The city of Los Altos has lowered its flags in the Community Plaza half staff in mourning the horrible of events of Dec. 14 at a Connecticut elementary school.

A heavily armed gunman killed at least 27 people, 20 of them schoolchildren between ages 5 and 10, before killing himself. National news media reported a 20-year-old gunman, who law enforcement sources identified as Adam Lanza, opened fire on a classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Los Altos United Methodist Church held an informal prayer vigil Friday evening to provide a forum of grievers.
