More details have emerged about the pilot program that will offer valet parking in downtown Los Altos during the holiday season.

According to Los Altos Economic Development Manager Kathy Kleinbaum, the program will provide shoppers free valet parking 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily Friday through Dec. 24, at Parking Plaza 5. The valet parking’s vehicle entry point will be on Third Street, between State and Main streets.

The Los Altos City Council approved the program Oct. 23.

Kleinbaum said the city will also offer free valet bicycle parking as part of the trial program, adding that Passerelle Investment Co. will loan the city its bicycle racks to equip the service. Gemma clothing boutique at 208 Main St., she noted, will allow the city to use its back patio area to store the parked bicycles.

The pilot valet parking program – jointly funded by the city, the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and the Los Altos Village Association (LAVA) – will cost less than originally anticipated, Kleinbaum said.

The program will run approximately $6,000 – roughly $1,000 less than the initial bids Kleinbaum received. The city and LAVA, she added, are each contributing $2,500 toward the program, with the chamber chipping in $1,000.
