Sid Hubbard, former Los Altos Hills city councilman and mayor, received the Principia College Gold Award and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at his alma mater, located in Elsah, Ill.

Hubbard, wife Doni, and family and friends from Los Altos Hills attended the Oct. 23 ceremony.

Hubbard graduated from Principia in 1965 and has remained a supportive alumnus. Lee Ellis, athletic director, introduced Hubbard at the ceremony.

“From the moment Sid stepped onto Principia’s football field in 1962, he established himself as a gracious, quiet leader,” Ellis said. “He was a starter all four years, never missing a single game or practice, and was team captain his senior year. Sid was also named to the Peoria Journal Star’s Illinois all-collegiate football team.”

Ellis said Hubbard’s skill and hard work as a student-athlete weren’t limited to football. He lettered three times in track and field, competing in discus, javelin, broad jump and shot put. He was a member of the 1964 varsity basketball team. After graduation, Hubbard played semiprofessional football for the Colorado Colts.

“His success in sports represented a continuation of superb athleticism, generosity and dedication to others,” Ellis said.

Now retired, Hubbard and Doni live in Penn Valley and Rancho Mirage, where he plays tennis and golf. The couple enjoy spending time with their two daughters, Audrey and Vallee, their families and grandchildren.
