TheatreWorks is set to present the Tony Award-winning musical “Big River” today through Dec. 30 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. The play is based on Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” It follows runaways Huck and Jim, an escaped slave, who ride down the Mississippi River, discovering a friendship that defies convention and defines the American dream.

The show previews 8 p.m. today through Friday and opens at the same time Saturday. Tickets are $23-$73. For tickets and more information, call 463-1960 or visit www.theatreworks.org.
