 Beverly Jane Brown died peacefully and full of gratitude, after a brief illness, in her Los Altos home on November 15th, 2012. She was 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ida Sack of Piedmont, California, and by her husband of 52 years, Gordon Alfred Brown. She is survived by her 3 children and 1 grandson: Marta Lyn Fowler of San Diego; Gregory Richards Brown of Kentfield; Hilary Anne Brown of Utrecht, The Netherlands; and grandson Nicolas Gordon Brown of San Anselmo.
Beverly was beloved by many, and known for her warmth, generosity and common sense. She touched not only her immediate family and friends but also numerous people who would find a friend and a listening ear in her. She was known for her warm hospitality, be it a birthday party, an abalone feed, dinner on the front porch in the summer or a spontaneous swim gathering with neighbors. Her home was “sanctuary” for many friends, travelers and guests for days or months at a time. There was “always room at the table” for one more. As a mother, she encouraged her 3 children to explore all possibilities of their interests and took joy in their joy. Her bubbly personality and caring conversation will be missed. While in high school, her artistic side choreographed a performance around the music of Valse Triste and she still recalled the dance 70 years later from her bedside. She appreciated all the arts and her home was filled with art from people she knew and admired. After college at San Jose State College, she taught elementary school and art for 6 years before retiring and becoming a homemaker. The first half of her life was in Oakland, California, and the last half in Los Altos. Very recently she moved to Redwood Villa Senior Apartment complex where she made new friends and had some well deserved fun. Services celebrating her life and love were held on Monday, November 26th at the Dana House at Hidden Valley Ranch, Los Altos Hills. Call Greg Brown at 415-302-9823 with any questions. We lived across the street on Santa Rita.Before the Brown's, the Gitchells lived there.Such a fabulous house.I remember when Gordon passed, i emailed my brother,Steve.Steve died only a few months after that.Life is short,hug your loved ones when possible.Thinking of the Brown's tonight.
