Los Altos Pharmacy owner Bart Nelson has added a Wellness Center to his practice, a health screening service for residents by FirstPoint Health Inc.

The free service, available for residents of all ages, allows for the screening of vision, diabetes risk and body mass index. The pharmacy is located at 255 Second St. in downtown Los Altos.

“I am excited to offer this free and valuable service to my patrons and to those in the surrounding Los Altos area in our ongoing effort to increase the health, well-being and longevity of members in our community,” Nelson said in a release. “This is a quick and easy way to assess your health in several key areas.”

The Wellness Center will provide information on diabetes management and connect users with local community physicians and health-care providers.

“Our goals are to increase awareness of potential health risks early, and build community by featuring information on local health-care providers for healthier Los Altos residents,” said Jory Moon, CEO of FirstPoint Health.

Moon noted the importance of frequent vision screenings for children in school, those in the workforce using computers, people with various health conditions and seniors.

“It is particularly important for school-age children to be screened to ensure they are able to participate in class and not fall behind in their education due to poor vision,” Moon said. “We are especially pleased to partner with Los Altos Pharmacy to offer this free service because of their emphasis on the wellness of their customers and the special services they offer.”
