Mordo deserves thanks for library service Many residents of Los Altos Hills probably are unaware that Councilman Jean Mordo has represented them on the Joint Powers Authority Board, which governs the Santa Clara County Library System. He has done this every year he has been on the Los Altos Hills City Council. We owe Mr. Mordo many thanks for the time and effort he has made on our behalf.
He made efforts to make the Joint Powers Board more effective as a governing body and recently spearheaded the drive to make distribution of the tax money for our county libraries more equitable. For supporting our library and representing the interests of our town, thank you, Jean Mordo. First, there’s a “paid advertisement” (Oct. 10) by a sitting Los Altos city councilman. A well-respected former Los Altos resident is moved to write a letter to the editor (Oct. 17) challenging the fairness of the article. Then there’s the story about our Los Altos mayor attempting to use the power of her office to have campaign signs for candidates Jeannie Bruins and Jerry Sorensen removed from a downtown business. Why is there such an effort to discredit two of the candidates by current councilmembers? The city of Los Altos deserves better behavior from its elected officials. Jack Kelly Los Altos One beautiful night lit up MV football Mountain View High School held its first “Friday Night Lights” football game in its 50-year history Oct. 26. This year’s event drew a large crowd of well-behaved spectators of all ages. There are reasons why 38 out of the 40 public high schools in Santa Clara County have stadium lights or are very soon to get them. The advantages are tremendous and yield lasting benefits. It is unfair to our students and community that our unlighted facilities are woefully out of date and substandard. We urge the high school district to move forward on the path of installing permanent lights at Mountain View and Los Altos high schools. Neighbors need to know that their concerns about safety, traffic and noise will be met, and they deserve to be heard. But they cannot serve as a permanent obstacle to doing what is right for our high school students, the school and the community. We need to begin the process and dialogue now.
