Softball sign-ups

Mountain View-Los Altos Girls Softball sign-ups are under way. Those who register by Thursday receive an early-bird discount. The league open to girls 5-16, stresses skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. To register or for more information, visit www.mvlags.org.

Turkey Trot time

Mountain View High’s third annual Spartan Turkey Trot is scheduled the morning of Thanksgiving, Nov. 22. Race-day registration is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. on the school track. The 5K run is slated to start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K walk at 8:35 a.m. A series of fun runs are planned immediately after the 5Ks: a 60-yard dash, a 400 dash and a mile run. The top three finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions of the 5K run will be awarded home-baked pumpkin pies and a gift certificate for the On Your Mark Performance running store in Los Altos. PONY starts sign-ups

Los Altos Mountain View PONY Baseball registration has opened for the spring season. The league is for boys and girls ages 5-19. Practice begins in March and the season runs through May or June. To register or for more information, visit www.lamvpb.org.

Snowshoeing basics

REI in Mountain View is scheduled to host a free presentation, “Snowshoeing Basics,” 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 29. REI snowshoe specialist Philip Watkins will demonstrate how to select appropriate gear and provide tips on where to go snowshoeing. REI is located at 2450 Charleston Road. Holiday hoops camp

Spartans Sports Camp’s inaugural Holiday Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 26-29 in the Mountain View High gym. It is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8.
