LASD seeks community input on facilities process Print E-mail
Written by Traci Newell

The Los Altos School District is holding a special meeting 7 p.m. Monday (Nov. 5) at the Covington School multipurpose room, 201 Covington Rd. The meeting was scheduled to gain community input on the district's facilities process with Bullis Charter School this year.

Each year the school district is required to provide the charter school with reasonably equivalent facilities for all of its in-district students. Based on the charter school's enrollment projections, Bullis plans to have 615 in-district students next year. This year the school has 475 in-district students.

To frame the public input, the district has provided a set of guiding questions.

"The public is invited to use these questions as a starting point to provide useful input to the process of facilities allocation," the district website stated. "By no means are these guiding questions intended to limit the scope of public input."

The questions include:

• How does LASD best accommodate BCS growth?

• What should the LASD board consider when evaluating the impact of sharing arrangements with BCS co-locating on an existing LASD campus?

• Assuming meeting Proposition 39 will require expenditure of district resources, where do we prioritize?

     a. Providing reasonably equivalent facilities at existing school site on a shared basis?

     b. Finding a new, non-district site for BCS?

     c. Reconfiguring district schools to open more space for BCS?

• Is there a less divisive process by which to address facilities issues each year?
