The Rotary Club of Los Altos’ Red Badge Committee is raising money to purchase multifunctioning Livescribe Smartpens and tablets to help make learning easier for Veterans Resource Center participants at Foothill College.

As part of the effort, a fundraising party is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Nov. 2 at Nature Gallery, 296 State St., Los Altos.

The event will include live music, refreshments courtesy of Nature Gallery and Go Go Gyro, door prizes and a demonstration of how the Livescribe pen works.

The Smartpen has proven popular with students with special needs and veterans with injuries or conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

Students can use the pen to record lectures, take notes and send emails or illustrations to Facebook or other sites. Livescribe, founded in 2007, is based in Oakland.

Pens cost $150 each. Donations are tax deductible and accepted in any amount.

Send donations to the Los Altos Rotary Endowment Fund, PO Box 794, Los Altos 94023-0794. Write “Smart Pens for Vets” in the memo line.

Donation drop-off locations in Los Altos include Go Go Gyro, 4546 El Camino Real, and Nature Gallery.

Donations also may be made at weekly Rotary Club meetings. The club meets noon every Thursday at the Garden House in Shoup Park, 400 University Ave., Los Altos.
