The Town Crier last week ran a paid advertisement from Los Altos City Councilman Ron Packard that, upon reflection, we regret publishing.

The ad was essentially a column that offered Packard’s opinions of the current candidates for city council.

We believe that all content in our paper should refrain from negative, unfounded attacks on others. This is true for Letters to the Editor as well as paid political endorsements. Although entitled to his opinion, Packard unfairly criticized two council candidates. He accused Jeannie Bruins of supporting 3-5 story buildings on Main Street, which she says she has never done. He also wrongly accused Jerry Sorensen of being a leader of downtown landlords.

We wish to play no part in promoting negative politics.

Once again the editor of the Town Crier apologizes for a piece he's run in his paper.
It's a free press, correct? Opinions are just opinions and in a free society we are allowed to express our opinions. I'm sick of (some) people labeling opinions that differ from there own as "anti" or "hateful". Most of all, I'm sick of the editor of the TC apologizing for doing his job. Maybe you should just stick to the local sports scores and want ads as content in your apologetic paper.
