The newly formed North Santa Clara County Gang Task Force engaged in its inaugural operation Oct. 12, conducting a series of probation and parole searches in Mountain View and Sunnyvale. The task force’s mission is to enable officers from participating agencies to proactively and jointly address gang violence in northern Santa Clara County.
In addition to the Mountain View Police Department and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the Los Altos Police Department, the Palo Alto Police Department and the Stanford Department of Public Safety took part in the searches. More than 60 officers from 10 agencies fanned out in six teams to visit multiple residences in both cities. Officers checked the homes of 22 gang members and gang affiliates who were on probation or parole. They made 13 arrests on a variety of charges, including possession of deadly weapons, possession for sale of narcotics and probation violations. The task force plans to contact gang members and gang affiliates living in other participating cities and jurisdictions.
