Cool Los Altos is a grassroots organization comprising residents and businesses in Los Altos creating local awareness of climate change and encouraging and enabling the city, businesses and residents to take action to reduce their impact on the environment.
Cool Los Altos formed in October 2007. The group’s initial goal – to lobby the city to put global warming on its agenda by signing the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and conducting an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions from city operations – met with success when the city council committed to these actions on Jan. 22.
Cool Los Altos has the support of more than 700 residents and businesses who signed a petition encouraging the city to take action. At its core are 15 active members.
