Legal action flying between charter, LASD Print E-mail

Los Altos School District trustees filed legal action Monday to force Bullis Charter School's release of student records. Trustees said they have been requesting the records for years to validate the charter school's space requirements. They also want records to verify the number of charter school students from outside the district (for instance, Mountain View-Whisman) so the district could be reimbursed for costs associated with those students. BCS also filed a motion Aug. 10 seeking $1.3 million from the district for recovery of legal fees during the 2009-2010 school year.

You report "Trustees have been requesting the records for years". Can you report on a response from BCS? (assuming you've asked...)

This seems like a violation of privacy. My child isn't enrolled in LASD, therefore LASD isn't entitled to view my child's records. This information is confidential and privileged per the Public Information Act and I would expect that BCS would act in my child's interest. Surely there must be a way for LASD to get the information it needs without a full release of records or a lawsuit. Is that where my parcel tax money goes?
