New Dittmer’s market slated to open this week? Print E-mail

For local meat-devouring enthusiasts, the wait is close to ending.

Dittmer’s Gourmet Meats & Wurst-Haus Inc. is scheduled to open its new 5,000-square-foot market at 4540 El Camino Real in Los Altos at some point this week, according to manager Petra Silva.

The market, which has served Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View and the greater Bay Area since 1978, could reopen as early as today – although the date is not set in stone. Silva is looking forward eagerly to her family-owned market’s new beginning as the finish line nears.

After a two-alarm fire ravaged the market 18 months ago, the delicatessen and butcher shop was forced to close and vacate its previous location.

“I’m excited to be reopening,” said Silva, the daughter of founder Dittmer Bubert. “It’s been a long journey to get to this point.”

The staff is working to prepare approximately 7,000 pounds of meat products for the store’s opening. Silva added that the sandwich counter would open later than the market itself – possibly not until next month.

Customers will again be able to purchase Ditt-mer’s smoked-meat favorites, including paprika sausage, German salami and ham hocks.

For more information and to confirm the opening date, Silva suggests customers check the Dittmer’s Facebook page or visit www.dittmers.com.
