Nine young local writers won accolades this spring for their essays on "Los Altos – 60 Years from Now."

As prize-winners in the annual Margaret Thompson Historical Essay Contest, the third- through sixth-graders imagined a specific place in Los Altos as it would look in the far future.

Third-grade writers:

Janya Sundar wrote about a greener Los Altos.

Seth Moos explored a wrecked synagogue.

Samantha Ford described a woodland, high-tech library.

Fourth-grade writers:

Nathan Ng visited a sci-fi library complete robots.

Nils Forstall imagined an eco-distopia and its prevention.

Nakul Shenoy described a library as community paradise.

Fifth-grade writers:

Bryn Lea Perry described thriving open space.

Giulia Mantovani celebrated the alien flavors of future ice cream.

Amanda Chan’s labyrinthine future library was a literal community jewel.

Sixth-grade writers:

Reisha Savadatti enjoyed a high-tech game of midnight golf.

Grace Flinchum’s future includes a beach on Grant Road and laser-assisted basketball.

Grace Wilken envisions natural gas-fuelled flying cars and big oil companies turned high-tech.
