Residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills are one step closer to more affordable solar power.
In January, GreenTown Los Altos joined three other cities – Hillsborough, Portola Valley and Woodside – in SunShares, an innovative group-buy program. Sponsored by the Bay Area Climate Collaborative, the program helps local communities advance their sustainability goals.
“This program will help you reduce utility bills, increase home comfort and generate clean energy,” said program administrator Kevin Armstrong of GroupEnergy. “In addition to the great group discounts on solar, there are significant savings available – up to $4,000 – through energy-efficiency rebates from Energy Upgrade California.”
The federal Renewable Energy Tax Credit, available through 2016, provides a tax credit of 30 percent of the total system cost of installed solar electric systems.
GreenTown’s Gary Hedden said the new program delivers savings at least 15 percent below current market rates.
