Filoli’s annual Spring Fling is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 31 on the grounds of the National Trust for Historic Preservation property, 86 Cañada Road in Woodside.

During the event, guests are invited to visit the historical house and 16 acres of gardens in bloom. The Bubblesmith, who creates giant bubbles, will perform. The Fortis Agility Sports Training Group will entertain with trained dogs navigating challenging obstacles. Guide Dogs for the Blind puppies will be available for petting, as well as a miniature horse and alpacas for viewing.

Docent-led nature walks will be offered throughout the day on the trails in Filoli’s woodlands. Orchard docents will be on hand to provide information about Filoli’s Gentlemen’s Orchard, the largest heirloom orchard in private hands in the U.S. Guided tours of the orchard are scheduled to begin June 9, with additional tours on Father’s Day.

Additional activities for children and families include live music, flower-arranging demonstrations, a magic show, a puppet show, arts and crafts and face painting. Filoli’s own honey, herb mixes, vinegars, dips and soup mixes will be available for purchase.

Filoli’s three greenhouses will be open to visitors, who can view plants that have been in Filoli’s collection from 1920 to the present, including carnivorous plants, unusual bromeliads, orchids and edible tropical plants. In the potting shed, children can decorate a container and pot a spring plant to take home. Throughout the greenhouses and gardens, docents will be available to answer questions.

Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers, $5 for ages 5-17 and free for children 4 and under. Purchase tickets online at www.filoli.org or call Filoli 9-4 p.m. weekdays at 364-8300, ext. 508. Space is limited, so early reservations are recommended.

Box lunches – $18 for adults, $10 for children – must be ordered in advance. Parking is free.

A big bouquet of thanks for letting your community know about Spring Fling, which is Filoli's first fundraiser of the year and a fun-filled family event. Happy Spring to all the residents of Los Altos.
