A Los Altos man reported as missing and possibly armed on Valentine’s Day was located the following morning at Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos. Los Altos Police found him near an elementary school on lockdown due to his presence.

The 37-year-old man was unarmed and did not pose a threat to anyone, according to Los Altos police Detective Abe Velasco, who, citing possible HIPAA violations, declined to identify him. Officers found a gun in the man’s car, Velasco said, but he “was not arrested or cited.”

The detective added that Los Altos police used “various investigative tools” to trace the man to a dirt parking lot near Lexington Elementary School in the hills near the south end of the reservoir. Velasco declined to elaborate further on the investigation.

“This was never a criminal case,” he said. “It was more of a missing person/welfare check.”
