Just five months after GreenTown Los Altos appointed Keith Turner to lead the clean-and-green grassroots organization as executive director, the non-profit announced his departure earlier this month.

Turner assumed the leadership role in November after co-founder and executive director Kacey Fitzpatrick resigned in July following a management-infrastructure reorganization.

Margie Suozzo, GreenTown co-founder, has stepped in to replace Turner on a volunteer basis.

“For now, we decided to operate as an all-volunteer organization instead of hiring another executive director,” Suozzo wrote in an e-mail. “By a majority vote of the core leadership team, I was selected as chair.”

Suozzo said Turner cited personal reasons for leaving the position. In the meantime, GreenTown is recruiting volunteers, particularly local residents with expertise in fundraising and volunteer management.

Turner’s resignation comes as GreenTown prepares to launch a two-week “DriveLess” challenge on Earth Day, April 22. The campaign is aligned with the organization’s principle mission, Suozzo said.

“Our primary program focus for the next few years is on building a healthy, vibrant community that bikes, walks and carpools more to get around town – and in the process, helps support our local economy,” Suozzo said.
