The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) received a grant from Target Corp. to help fund its free Family Concerts series.

As part of its mission to provide “arts for all,” CSMA, a non-profit center for arts education, annually reaches more than 40,000 people of all ages by providing classes, lessons and camps in music, visual arts and new media; arts-in-the-schools programs; after-school art clubs; concerts, lectures and exhibitions; and free community outreach events.

“Because of the generous corporate sponsorship of Target, people of all ages will be able to enjoy free family concerts featuring music, dance and artistic traditions of cultures from around the world,” said Jeffry Walker, CSMA executive director. “Making live performance available to children is important to setting them on a lifelong path of enjoyment of the arts.”

The grant is part of Target’s ongoing efforts to strengthen families and communities nationwide. Target donates 5 percent of its income – more than $3 million a week – to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism.

“At Target, our local grants are making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Laysha Ward, Target’s president of community relations. “We’re proud to partner with the Community School of Music and Arts as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.”

CSMA’s 2009-2010 Family Concerts series includes the following performances. Admission is free, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

• 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday – Dr. Noize Live, electronic music and more.

• 2 and 4 p.m. Dec. 13 – Aux Cajunals, old-fashioned Cajun music.

• 2 and 4 p.m. Feb. 21 – Halau ’o Keikiali’i, Hawaiian music.

• 2 and 4 p.m. April 18 – Oriki Theatre, African-American music and dance.

CSMA is located at Finn Center, 230 San Antonio Circle, Mountain View.
