Egan camp LASD's final offer to charter school Print E-mail

Egan camp school is Los Altos School District's final offer to Bullis Charter School for next year. Trustees voted unanimously after a minimum of discussion March 29 to make their March 15 offer final.

"This meets our legal obligation to meet our April deadline," said Victor Reid, president of the board of trustees, to the educators and parents who filled the Covington Road boardroom for the special meeting. The charter school board has several weeks to consider the offer.

Superintendent Marge Gratiot told the board that routine adjustments to the offer - to change a room assignment, for example - can be made by district staff without recourse to the board.

Bullis Charter School Board Chairman Craig Jones had written the trustees March 24 requesting "a mediated solution to the question of the location of the charter school."

Reid said, "This vote has taken care of that. The final offer is for Egan camp school for the next school year only."

Jones also had suggested that the district school board and the charter school board continue the subcommittee meetings that both groups say have proved constructive. None of the district trustees saw a purpose for such a subcommittee.

The trustees also unanimously approved the points of agreement between the district and the town of Los Altos Hills that will be the basis for the town's lease of the multiuse room and administrative offices at the Bullis-Purissima School site while the new town hall is under construction. The lease would begin May 1 and end no later than July 31, 2005.

Randy Kenyon, assistant superintendent for business services, reported that the Los Altos Hills City Council has approved the expenditure of $96,000 for the period. Gratiot said the council has approved the points "in concept."
