Cal Pops Orchestra’s season finale set for Sunday at Foothill College

The California Pops Orchestra is scheduled to host its season finale, “Maestros of the Movies,” 3 p.m. Sunday at Foothill College’s Smithwick Theatre, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

Conducted by Kim Venaas, the orchestra will perform music from Hollywood hits. The program includes pieces from “Cleopatra,” “The Mask of Zorro,” “Beauty and the Beast,” all eight “Harry Potter” films, “Charade.” “Dirty Dancing,” “The Godfather,” “Ghost” and the Tom and Jerry cartoons.

 
Canadian quartet to perform at CSMA
Stepping Out

The Community School of Music and Arts has scheduled a Stanford Live Informance featuring the Afiara String Quartet 5-6 p.m. Saturday in Mountain View.

The Canadian-based Afiara String Quartet is known for its interest in new works and core classical repertoire.

 
Pianist Daniel Glover to solo with Peninsula Symphony Orchestra
Stepping Out

Los Altos-based Peninsula Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform Lee Actor’s Piano Concerto with soloist Daniel Glover 8 p.m. Saturday at the Flint Center in Cupertino. Directed by Mitchell Sardou Klein, the performance closes the 2012-2013 season.

The program also features Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6 and Mendelssohn’s “Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage.”

Peninsula Youth Theatre is set to perform “Pirates of Penzance” through Sunday in downtown Mountain View.

Peninsula Youth Theatre is scheduled to perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta “Pirates of Penzance” through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Michael Champlin directs and Katie O’Bryon serves as choreographer.

 
‘Ugly Duckling’ makes a splash Sunday in PA
Stepping Out

The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center has scheduled performances of “The Ugly Duckling,” the original musical fable adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic children’s tale, Sunday at the center’s Schultz Cultural Arts Hall, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto.

Four performances are slated, each in a different language: Mandarin (1:30 p.m.), Russian (3 p.m.), English (4 p.m.) and Hebrew (5 p.m.).
