Loyola K-Kids collects spectacles through April
Members of the Loyola School K-Kids Club are sponsoring the fourth annual “Share Old Spectacles” drive to collect used eyeglasses and sunglasses.
The glasses will be shipped to Direct Relief International in Goleta, where the prescriptions are identified and the glasses repaired and distributed internationally to those who cannot otherwise afford them.
The K-Kids Club will distribute collection buckets to merchants in Los Altos and Mountain View. To donate, drop off glasses at Trader Joe’s, 2310 Homestead Road in the Foothill Crossings Shopping Center; Altos Optical at 762 Altos Oaks Drive, Suite 3; Full Thread Ahead, 169 Main St.; the Los Altos Town Crier, 138 Main St.; Tom’s Depot, 991 Fremont Ave.; and Site for Sore Eyes, 650 Castro St., Mountain View.
Art docents sponsor LASD art show
The Student Art Show, featuring artwork by every student in the Los Altos School District, is scheduled for exhibition April 4-6 at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
Gallery viewing hours are 2:30-5 p.m. April 4 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5-6. Children are invited to join art docents for hands-on projects 1-4 p.m. April 5.
The Student Art Show is presented by the Los Altos Art Docents, with support from the Los Altos Parks, Arts and Recreation Department, the Los Altos Art Club and the PTAs of district schools.
The event is free and open to children, parents, families, friends and the general public.

Loyola School presents “Honk Jr.”
Loyola School students are scheduled to perform “Honk Jr.” April 4-6 at the school, 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos.
“Honk Jr.,” featuring students in grades K-6, is a musical retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen classic “The Ugly Duckling.”
Four shows are scheduled: 7:30 p.m. April 4, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 5, and 2 p.m. April 6.
Tickets are $3/child, $5/adult and $20/family of 4-6.

St. Joseph raises funds for Zimbabwe orphanage
St. Joseph School in Mountain View is scheduled to host the 9th Annual Zimbabwe Run and Fair 12-4 p.m. April 6.
Participants can donate athletic shoes, view cultural exhibits and children’s art, meet “Zim” the elephant and listen to the Zimbabwean band Sadza and the steel drums of St. Francis High School.
A cross-country meet will include a Special Olympian 100-yard run, a preschool 220-yard run, a kindergarten half-mile run and grades 1-8, high school and adult 1-mile runs. Championship cups will be awarded for grades 1-8.
The cost to run is $5. Proceeds benefit the Makumbi Children’s Home in Zimbabwe.
