The South Peninsula Area Republican Coalition has scheduled Tom Campbell, former Republican congressman and current dean of UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, to speak 6 p.m. Friday at Michaels at Shoreline, 2960 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.

Campbell, former director of the California Department of Finance, will speak on “What’s Wrong with the State Budget, and a Few Thoughts about the Federal Budget, too.”

The event will feature appetizers and a no-host bar.

Tickets are $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers. Tickets purchased at the door without a reservation are $35.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
