Local artist exhibits at Main Street Cafe
Main Street Cafe & Books has scheduled “Maller on Main Street,” an exhibition of the work of Los Altos artist Will Maller, through March 31.
Primarily a representational landscape artist, recently focusing on plein air, Maller has won a variety of awards for his oils, watercolors and figure drawings.

Children’s book lecture set for today
Children’s literature historian Carol Jacobs is scheduled to speak on the “History of Children’s Book Illustration” 10 a.m. today at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
Jacobs earned a master’s degree in education, specializing in the history of children’s literature. She has taught at Foothill College, Cañada College and San Francisco State University.
Admission is free and open to the public. The lecture is presented with the cooperation of the Los Altos Senior Center Artventures program, directed by Kay Alexander.

French fair lands in Los Altos
“A Day in France,” the inaugural Peninsula French fair, is scheduled 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 29 at the Hillview Community Center, Room A, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
The event will feature antiques, original works by French artists and an array of gourmet food samples. Art for sale will include paintings, jewelry, handmade clothing, home decorations, toys and wall decals.
Ten percent of sales will benefit the non-profit organization Partners For New Generations.

Zimbabwe fundraiser scheduled April 6
The ninth annual Run for Zimbabwe Orphans and Zimbabwean Fair is scheduled April 6 at St. Joseph School, 1120 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View.
Organized by the Sustainable Living Foundation and sponsored by the Wakerly Family Foundation and St. Joseph School, the run will feature a variety of cross-country events for children and adults of all ages.
The fair’s festivities will include music provided by Sadza and an appearance by Father Stephen Silungwe, interim director at the Makumbi Children’s Home in Zimbabwe.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Makumbi Children’s Home. Last year, participants raised $30,000 for the home’s orphans.

Town hall art show features Florida artist
An art show featuring the works of Katherine Allen of Florida is scheduled 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1-5:30 p.m. weekdays through September at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.
Allen’s show includes stitched acrylic monotypes on silks and cottons. They are unorthodox renderings derived from nature, painted and stitched by hand.
An artist’s reception is scheduled 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

Westwind & Wineries set for March 30
Westwind & Wineries III, an event designed to introduce West-wind Barn and Los Altos Hills winemakers to the community, is scheduled March 30 at the barn, 27210 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills.
Program registration will begin at 1:30 p.m., wine tasting from 2-4 p.m. and an equestrian demonstration at 4 p.m.
Registration for the event is required and limited to 200 attendees over 21 years old.
An alternate rain date is scheduled April 6. The event is free and open to Los Altos Hills residents.

LA Library schedules Annie Leibovitz lecture
Mina Shea, a docent at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, is scheduled to review the exhibition “Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life, 1990-2005” in an illustrated lecture 7:30 p.m. March 12 in the program room of the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.
The exhibition, on display at the Palace of the Legion of Honor through May 25, includes more than 200 photographs. The talk is free and open to the public. For more information, call 948-7683.
LA Library organizes clothing swap for teens
The Los Altos Library has scheduled a Teen Clothing Swap noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.
Teenagers can bring in three articles of clothing and swap them for a new outfit. All leftover clothing will be donated to a local charity.

Hoppin’ Hounds scheduled in LAH
The fifth annual Hoppin’ Hounds Easter biscuit hunt to benefit the Palo Alto Animal Services and shelter is scheduled 9 a.m. March 22 at Byrne Preserve in Los Altos Hills, next to Westwind Barn on Altamont Road.
Dogs will hunt on leash with their owners for egg-shaped biscuits baked and donated by Five Paw Bakery in Los Altos.
A $5 donation is requested. Last year’s Hoppin’ Hounds event raised more than $1,000 for the shelter, and happy hounds uncovered more than 2,500 biscuits.

Wildcat specialists Rob and Barbara Dicely have scheduled a Wildcat Adventure presentation 2 p.m. March 30 at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.
