Runners and walkers of all ages participated in last year’s New Year’s Day “Fun Run.”

The Los Altos Recreation Department has scheduled its 2007 New Year’s Day 5K Fun Run, Walk & Roll 9 a.m. Monday. The New Year’s

Day run starts at the Community Plaza located at the corner of State and Main streets in downtown Los Altos.

This noncompetitive and free community event is open to all ages and ability levels without preregistration. Participants can run, walk, inline skate, scooter, skateboard or stroller the 3.1-mile distance. The course will remain on street surfaces, with State, Whitney and Main streets closed to vehicle traffic as well as portions of First, Second, Third and Fourth streets. Bicycles will not be permitted. Light refreshments will be available.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
