Speed may have played a role in the Nov. 27 one-vehicle crash in the unincorporated area of Santa Clara County near Los Altos Hills that claimed the life of a young Morgan Hill man.

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the crash, which occurred at 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Eastbrook Avenue and Partridge Lane. Officer Eric Parsons said the Ford F150 driven by 18-year-old Christopher Michael Quezada left large skid marks on the road. Quezada died after his pickup truck rammed into a tree.

“He may have lost control and speed might be a contributing factor,” Parsons said. Investigators do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Parsons said Quezada was wearing his seatbelt and that no one else was in the truck.

Los Altos resident Kyleen Liston was on her way home from work when she passed the scene of the accident. She said she saw a wrecked car on fire. Another woman had called 911 just moments before Liston got to the scene.

The two of them managed to smother the flames with their coats and a nearby garden hose, but Quezada was dead, she said.

“The first girl called 911 right away. … I held his hand and tried to find a pulse, but it was too late,” Liston said.

She expressed her appreciation for the quick response time of the emergency crews.

“The emergency responders were the real superheroes, they arrived sooner than I thought was possible,” she said.
