JUNE HARRIET HARVEY MUSCATELL

June Harriet Harvey Muscatell passed away in her home in Cloverdale on October 29th, surrounded by her loving children. She was born October 18th, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a loving, caring beautiful mother of eleven children and fifteen grandchildren, and was married to the late Robert (Bob) Muscatell.

June moved to Cloverdale in 2003 after living in Hawaii for three years. She spent the majority of her life in Los Altos, raising her family. June was also a very talented artist, home designer, and decorator. Our mother was very unique and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was indeed the heart of the family. We will all miss her dearly.

She is survived by her children: Steven Muscatell, Susan Muscatell, Rory Muscatell, Kim Muscatell, Darcy Muscatell, Greg Muscatell, Shannon Reilly, Tierney Muscatell, Hillary Muscatell, Drew Muscatell, Deirdre Jara. Her grandchildren: Jeremy, D’Aulaire, and Megan Louwerse, Corey and Amanda McGoldrick, Stephen Muscatell, Emily Muscatell, Mollie, Mackenzie and Harrison Reilly, Derek and Alexandra Jara, Isabella, Sophia and Brendan Muscatell. She is also survived by her three sisters: Joyce Strom of Santa Cruz, Joann O’Briant of Los Altos, and Carol Brandt of Littleton, CO.

A celebration of our mother’s life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Sonoma County, or UNICEF.

JOHN RICHARD PROVINES

John Richard Provines, or Jp as many of his friends knew him, age 42, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 after a courageous battle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. John was born in Palm Beach, Florida, but raised in Los Altos, CA and Sherborn, MA by his parents, Joe and Diana Provines. After graduating from UCLA, John traveled the world.

He spent many years in Europe, teaching skiing in the winter in Kitzbuhl, Austria, and tennis in the summer in Munich, where he became fluent in German. While living in Salt Lake City, UT in 1999, he met his future wife, Alison Marie Roth, through mutual friends. He moved back to the Bay Area to be with her and they married in Jamaica in 2003.

After his diagnosis, they moved to Park City UT, where they have lived for the past 2 1/2 years. They have 2 beautiful sons, Jake Roth Provines, 3, and Garrett John Provines, 14 months, and a dog, Marley, all of whom he loved dearly.

John is survived by his loving wife and sons, his mother, Diana of Park City, UT, his father, Joe of Los Altos, CA, his grandfather Peter Ferro and his wife Margaret of Granite City, IL, his brother Brian and his son, Mitchell, of Park City, his brother Todd and wife Anna Marie and their daughter, Fiona, of Los Altos, CA, his brother Connor and sister Alexandra, both also of Los Altos. He is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews and many, many friends in the states and in Europe. He was fun-loving, strong-willed and lived life to its fullest. His death leaves a hole in many hearts, and his strength and endurance will be remembered for years to come.

A celebration of John’s life was held at the Hotel Park City, in Park City, UT on Friday, November 17th. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Provines Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank, or sent to either of the 2 wonderful organizations that helped his family during the past few years; ALS Clinic C/O Dr. Mark Bromberg, University of Utah, 30 N 1900 E, SOM 3R152, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132 or MDA 4560 S. Highland Dr. Suite 180, Salt Lake City, UT 84117. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to IHC Home Care in Heber, and the Park City Fire Department for taking such special care of Jp during the last year.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
