Foothill College begins search for new president
A nationwide search for Foothill College’s next president has begun. With the guidance of Academic Search Senior Consultant John Hicks, a committee will begin reviewing applicants in early January.
Hicks has met with various campus constituencies to understand the culture at Foothill and to determine the characteristics the college is looking for in a president. A comprehensive profile of the characteristics and qualifications is available at www.foothill.edu.
FHDA Foundation allocates gala funds
The Foothill-De Anza Foundation has disbursed nearly $130,000 from its 2006 Summer Benefit Gala.
The Foothill Commission has allocated $80,000 to the Bernadine Chuck Fong Innovation Fund to support innovative educational initiatives. A total of $35,000 went toward other Foothill College initiatives, including Autodesk Design Institute Seed Funds, $8,500; Tutorial Center, $5,000; Pass the Torch, $5,000; Dallas Black Dance Theater performance outreach, $5,000; 31st Annual Writers Conference, $5,000; Honors Institute, $4,000; Intercollegiate Speech and Debate Team, $1,500; and Scholarship Awards Ceremony, $1,000. The remaining $15,000 will be held in reserve to support programs that require assistance over the course of the year.
Gunn High School stages ‘Shakespeare in Hollywood’
The Gunn High School Performing Arts Department is performing Ken Ludwig’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood” through Saturday in its Studio Theatre, 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto.
The comedy, set in 1934, stars Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, who have magically materialized on the Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the fairies are cast to play themselves in the movie.
Performances are scheduled 3:30 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are $8 evening, $4 matinee.

LA Christian School sponsors car wash
Los Altos Christian School has scheduled a middle school car wash 1-3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Los Altos, 625 Magdalena Ave. Cost is $10.
Proceeds from the car wash will support the building of Grace Elementary School in New Delhi, India.

Local PTAs sponsor parent seminar on nutrition
The Parent-Teacher Associations of Oak and Loyola elementary schools have scheduled a parent education seminar, “Healthy Eating: Nutrition, Attitudes and Behaviors,” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Loyola school library, 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos.
Anna Fleischman Miller, M.S., R.D., will discuss nutrition for elementary school students and the role parents play in developing healthful attitudes and behaviors toward food. Miller teaches at De Anza College and is a registered dietitian.
