YVONNE VALERIE DUNN

Valerie Dunn, born March 4, 1924, peacefully passed away on November 6, 2006 at the age of 82. A long-time Los Altos resident, Valerie was the dearly beloved wife of Charles E. Dunn for 63 years. A devoted mother to Charles (Nancy) Dunn of Los Altos and predeceased daughter Carol Dianne. A loving grandmother to Jeffrey (Noelle) Dunn of Mountain View; Jennifer Dunn of San Francisco; Jessica (Arnd) Geis of Leuven, Belgium.

Originally from Forest Lake, Minnesota, Valerie moved to the Bay Area in 1943 after she and Charles married. Charles later started Dunn’s Automotive in downtown Mountain View. With her kind soul, Valerie touched the lives of many. She enjoyed boating, card games, crossword puzzles, and visits with her family and many friends. Whether at home in Los Altos or at their vacation home in Discovery Bay, she was the consummate hostess making everyone feel welcome and special.

Valerie is also survived by her sister Katherine Heisler and her sister-in-law Roseanne Heisler, both of whom reside in Minnesota; her brother Larry Heisler of Iowa. She is also survived by sister-in-law Maxine Tucker of Arizona and sister-in-law Minnie Lee of Oklahoma.

Visitation, followed by a memorial service was held on Friday, November 10, at Spangler Mortuary, 399 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos. Interment services took place immediately afterwards at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto.

PEGGY F. TANDORF

In Los Altos, November 3, 2006, age 85. Widow of Capt. George Tondorf, Pan American Airways, retired.

Peggy received her BA from Louisiana State University and her MA from Stanford. She was a resident of Los Altos for over 40 years. Mother of Lynne, Richard, and Patti, and a grandmother of two.

Peggy embraced life with great enthusiasm. With her husband, Peggy was a world traveler. She was a lover of the arts, and at various times was a season ticket holder for the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, and the San Francisco Ballet, as well as the Peninsula Symphony, Theatreworks, and the Jose Repertory. Peggy was an expert bridge player, and an avid golfer. Until her illness, Peggy was a member of Los Altos Golf and Country Club. Well into her eighties, Peggy was playing nine holes of golf weekly at Los Altos Country Club, as well as giving occasional bridge lessons there. Peggy was a past president of the ladies nine hole club at LAG&CC.

Peggy was a charter member and a past resident of the Los Altos/Mountain View chapter of the American Association of University Women.

In the 1970’s, Peggy was employed as a home teacher. When she saw that many of her students were not in school because they were pregnant or had small children, Peggy started a young mothers class. This class helped many young women get a high school diploma or GED. For this innovative class, Peggy received the 1977 Status of Women award from the Los Altos/Mountain View branch of AAUW.

Peggy was a member of the Valley Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, the Pan Am Wives Club, the League of Women Voters, and the Los Altos Church of Christ, Scientist.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pilgrim Haven for their excellent care during the last two years.

DONALD RALPH WILCOX

Donald Ralph Wilcox passed away Aug. 27 2006, at age 87. Born in Minneapolis, MN in 1918, he served in the Army Air Corps in the Philippines during World War II. After the war he received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Minnesota. It was there that he met Jeanne. They married in 1947. Don was a resident of Los Altos for 43 years. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, daughter Anne and her husband Mike McCann, and daughter Jo and her husband Bill Welden. He leaves five grandchildren, Maggie, Amy, Christopher, Julia and Jessica.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held on Nov. 18, 2006 at the Palo Alto Unitarian Universalist Church at 6 PM. The Church is located at 505 East Charleston Road in Palo Alto.
