Bus Barn Stage Company leaps into the holiday season with “Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge,” which opens this week in Los Altos.
A new offering from accomplished playwright Christopher Durang, “Christmas Binge” is based on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” In Durang’s comedic version of the classic, the Ghost is played by a sassy woman whose magic is off, Scrooge and the Ghost keep showing up at Bob Cratchit’s house too early, and Mrs. Cratchit, furious with her family, intends to get drunk and jump off the London Bridge.
Linda Piccone of Los Altos directs the production, running through Dec. 16 at the Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave. The cast features Alexandrai Bond (as the Ghost), James Mantell (Scrooge), Diahanna Davidson (Mrs. Cratchit), Chuck Phelps (Bob Cratchit) and Anna Powell (Tiny Tim). Shannon Stowe, Jeff Swan, John Watson, Shane Olbourne, Chris Carter, Jeremy Kelem and Laura Jane Bailey round out the cast.
Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays (tickets are $30); 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13 ($24); and 3 p.m. Nov. 27, Dec. 3 and 10 ($26). Thursday’s show is a preview ($22); Friday is opening night and includes a champagne reception ($32).
