Santa Rita Elementary holds book fair
Santa Rita Elementary School has scheduled a Reading Rainforest Scholastic Book Fair, Saturday through Nov. 9 in the multipurpose room of Santa Rita Elementary, 700 Los Altos Ave. The fair will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Nov. 9. There will be a special Family Evening 6-8 p.m. Nov. 9 with prizes, refreshments and stories read by Santa Rita’s new Principal Alyssa Gallagher and a group of teachers.
This PTA-sponsored event features popular books and educational products for all ages from more than 150 publishers.

PA Art Center sponsors family art day
The Palo Alto Art Center has scheduled an afternoon of free hands-on art activities offered in conjunction with the exhibitions by Kiff Slemmons 2-4 p.m. Sunday.
Artists and members of the community will lead family art activities for parents and children 5 and older. A parent must accompany children. Activities include making egg-carton animals, soda-can rattles, rolled-paper beads, drinking-cup monster banks and newspaper hats.

SELPA 1 CAC schedules talk
SELPA 1 CAC has scheduled a talk by Nancy Ng 9-11 a.m. Nov. 15 (refreshments at 8:45 a.m.) in the Covington school multipurpose room. Ng is a counselor and mother of four biological and nine adopted children - many with special needs. She will discuss how she balances everyone’s needs and creates a positive, supportive family environment and will give ideas on how to focus on the positive in living with a child who has special needs and how to set aside the hard parts and count your blessings.
SELPA 1 CAC is an organization that specializes in children with special needs. The events are free and open to the public.

The Underground changes hours
The Underground Teen Center is a free drop-in facility for students in seventh through 12th grades. The Underground offers a variety of recreational activities designed to give teens a fun, safe place to relax. The Underground has pool tables, air hockey, foosball, Xbox, PS2, music and computers for gaming. Snacks are available for a small fee.
The center has new hours: 3:30-6:30 p.m. Fridays and 2-8 p.m. Saturdays. Hours may vary because of special Underground events.

Mtn. View nursery school hosts family concert
The Mountain View Parent Nursery School, in conjunction with MVLA Adult Education and the Foothill College Child Development Department, has scheduled a family concert with award-winning singer/songwriter Linda Arnold. Known for her collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium on the album “Splash Zone,” Arnold will present her whimsical, musical world of make believe.
Performances are scheduled 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday at Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College.
