LOIS ELAINE WILLIAMS
Lois Elaine Williams, a long-time resident of Los Altos Hills, passed away October 3, 2006 after a long illness. Her loving husband and daughters were at her side.
Born June 24, 1930 in Hartford, Connecticut, Lois graduated with a B.A. in Nursing from Skidmore College. She came to San Francisco in 1956 to work as a registered nurse. Lois met a young medical student here named James Hicks Williams, and they soon married. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January.
The family moved to Los Altos Hills in 1962. Lois was a devoted wife and mother, and dedicated many hours to volunteering with the Stanford Mothers’ Club and the Woodside-Atherton Auxiliary. In 1975, Lois contributed her nursing skills to Operation Babylift, in which over 2,000 orphaned infants and children in Vietnam were airlifted out of the country and adopted by families all over the world. She and her husband subsequently sponsored the relocation of several Vietnamese families to the Bay Area. She also adored animals and was an active horsewoman. Throughout her life, Lois was beloved for her kindness, creativity, and wonderful sense of humor. She was tireless in her support and encouragement of her family’s and friends’ interests and endeavors.
Lois’ greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, James Hicks Williams, M.D.; her daughters Marion Williams Robertson and Katherine (Ellie) Williams Thabit, M.D.; sons-in-law Stephen Robertson and George Thabit III, M.D.; and grandchildren Katherine and Ellie Robertson, and George and William Thabit.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Lung Society.
EDMUND EUGENE CORCORAN 1916 - 2006
Our beloved husband, father and “Poppy” passed away Thursday, October 5, 2006 in Los Altos, CA. Ed was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on May 27, 1916 and served as a flight officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. His numerous stories of landing at Old St. Andrews during WWII inspired us all, including the Sunnyvale ‘SIRS’ golf club of which he was an enthusiastic member.
Ed married the love of his life, Helene Goodwin in 1950 and they raised four accomplished children. Leaving Canada, the Corcoran’s lived in Seattle before heading south to the Bay Area, residing in Redwood City, Los Altos and Sunnyvale. A consummate salesperson, Ed worked with a pool construction company for many years, making friends of his many clients. He enjoyed his retirement years golfing, traveling and spending time with his family. Throughout Ed’s life he had many friends in the Bay Area and was the life of the party with his “Irish” sensibility and enthusiasm for life.
Ed is survived by his wife, Helene of Sunnyvale, CA, Lance Corcoran of Burlingame, CA, Cristine Corcoran of West Linn, OR, Mark Corcoran of Topsfield, MA and Cynthia Corcoran Douglas, Los Altos, CA. Surviving sisters are Margaret Geluch of Vancouver, BC, Eleanor Gropp of Saskatchewan, Canada. His seven grandchildren are Kellie, Patrick, Kevin, Meaghan, Ian, Luke and Connor.
Ed’s passion and love for life will be dearly missed and know his children/grandchildren will continue his legacy.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the health professionals that cared for our father during his illness. In particular, thanks to Roberta Crawford who cared so lovingly during the last year of Ed’s life.
