The award-winning Los Altos High School Eagle Marching Band and Color Guard presented its 2006 field show, “Reflections,” as a thank you to the community for its support Sept. 30 at Mountain View High.
The Mountain View High School Spartan Marching Band and The King’s Academy Marching Band also performed their new field shows.
The performance was a preview of the show the Eagle Marching Band and Color Guard will perform at competitions around the state this fall. Students have been practicing the music and drill for the show since August.
“Once again the band and color guard are challenging themselves with a show that demands incredible musicianship and drill that has us covering a lot of ground,” said Ted Ferrucci, band director. “We have a reputation for doing different music, music that is more demanding than most bands would attempt to put on the field.”
Richard Saucedo wrote “Reflections,” which consists of three movements: Reflections of Form, Reflections of Sound and Reflections of Light.
“The music dances through several different time signatures and captures the essence of what each movement is trying to depict,” Ferrucci said. “We begin and end the show in 7/4 and move to 5/4 for the second number - we rarely march in 4/4 time. The kids demand the challenge and are off to a wonderful start.”
Ferrucci said he expects the show to get stronger as it evolves and grows over the next two months.
“Be sure to see it again later in the season,” he said. “You will be amazed at the transformation and how much the kids have improved.”
The Saturday event was hosted by Robin Kramer and Adam Beck, band directors at Mountain View High.
