Sarah Riggs and Jim Stapleton

Sarah Riggs and Jim Stapleton were married July 22. The ceremony and reception took place at the home of the bride’s parents.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Riggs of Holden, Mass. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Sweet Briar College and a master’s in education from Harvard University. She is a science teacher at Summit Preparatory High School in Redwood City.

The groom is the son of Jim and Renee Stapleton of Los Altos. He graduated from Los Altos High School and received a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from UC Berkeley. He earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering and is a Ph.D. candidate in chemical engineering at Stanford University.

The couple met in the Gambia, West Africa, where they were serving in the Peace Corps. They live in Redwood City.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
