This plan, recently drawn up by Lisa Gelfand of Gelfand Partners Architects, shows an overhead view of the renovated classrooms on the Bullis-Purissima School site and some flex modular buildings placed behind the renovated classrooms.

The Los Altos School District Board of Trustees viewed an updated rendering last week from Lisa Gelfand of Gelfand Partners Architects of what the Bullis-Purissima campus would look like if a renovation plan is approved.

Gelfand presented a slide show at the board’s Sept. 11 meeting showcasing the modular buildings to be the renovated classrooms updated during the pending construction. She showed what the campus would look like after Phase I construction, and what the campus would look like if it were to be shared with Bullis Charter School.

Gelfand said that in Phase I they would modernize the existing facilities and add some modular buildings and flex space for extra classrooms. A creek-like feature would run down from the highest back terrace to the school level to provide drainage.

Last spring the district set aside $10 million for Phase I construction at the site. Superintendent Tim Justus said the district has put together a design committee and should be ready to present construction plans to the state in January. Justus said he expects construction to begin in the summer, with the school scheduled to reopen for the 2008-2009 school year.

“We continue to get the perception (that Hills’ residents) think we aren’t going to build anything up there,” Justus said. “There is not anything preventing the district timeline right now.”

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
