Eric Crites of Los Altos Hills was named to the dean’s list at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., for the spring semester. Students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade-point average to make the dean’s list. Crites is studying in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

Ryan Paul Davis of Los Altos Hills graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in May.

David Benjamin Nelson of Los Altos was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Students must achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average to qualify for the dean’s list.

Former Los Altos High School student Travis Gaskell of Los Altos graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in June with a bachelor of arts degree. Gaskell is the son of Ann Gaskell-Peck and Jim Peck.

Taylor K. White graduated summa cum laude from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in mathematics. White was fourth in his class out of nearly 800 graduating engineers. He is a member of Tau Beta Phi and Phi Tau Sigma. White is currently publishing for Cal Poly and will attend graduate school. He graduated from Los Altos High School in 2001.

Juliette Frette, Los Altos High School alumna, graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies and a minor in environmental studies. Frette also received high departmental honors and college honors. Frette will pursue acting.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
